Southland Church of God
Now known as
Old Paris Road Church of God
Southland Church of God first began as a Mission in a room in a Holiday Inn, then
they moved to an upstairs room on Southland Drive.
They left Southland Drive and went to Centre Parkway to a store front building in
Gainesway Shopping Center. The first Pastor was Roger Murray.
Rev. Jack E. Whitaker began pastoring Southland Church of God on May 31, 1987. The
church remained there until their lease was up on June 30, 1987. The next Sunday service was held at Whitaker Farm Shop with
a church picnic ( July 5, 1987) The Following Sunday July 12, 1987, they went to the cafeteria at the State campground. On
July the 19th, 1987 the first service was held in the new facilities at 1859 Old Paris Road, Lexington Ky 40505. It was such
a great day for everyone. Our church then became Old Paris Road Church of God.
God truly blessed and moved in a mighty way, Because without him we would never
have been able to obtain the church facilities. The church was formally Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon
Church).
We Thank god and and give him the glory for all that he has done.
Jack has evangelized since 1979, and this is his first pastorate. God is blessing
him abundantly.
